Colorado Springs Real Estate — For Climate,
Beauty And Outdoor Fun
There’s little wonder why Colorado Springs’ five military installations are some of the most requested duty stations in the U.S. Given the choice, who wouldn’t jump at the chance to relocate their family to a military town ranked by Money magazine as the nation’s #1 Best Place to Live?
Although no official research proves it, kids in the Colorado Springs school system would probably say “the Springs” ranks #1 because of its awesome climate that delivers 300+ days of sunshine a year — making it possible to wear shorts to school almost every day!
With such agreeable weather and a superb location at the foot of majestic Pike’s Peak, Colorado Springs offers an abundant outdoor life. This easy access to outdoor activities wins high marks for opportunities for physical fitness. All play a big role in gaining annual recognition as one of Cooking Light’s Best Cities for staying fit and earning Gallup’s rank as the nation’s 4th Fittest City.
And the best part? Think of all the great fun and memories to be made with family and friends while rock or mountain climbing, hunting, fishing, biking, hiking, white water rafting and skiing the nearby slopes!

I’m Nancy Murray, real estate broker and talking head of Murray & Associates, Realtors®, which is affiliated with Keller Williams Clients' Choice in Colorado Springs. Transferring here in 2002 as a U.S. Navy Commander, wife and mother, I — along with my American Airlines pilot husband — considered the wellbeing of our close-knit family to be of primary importance.
We agreed that the deciding factor in where we would buy a home would be the quality of the school district and the schools our two sons would attend. Nearly everyone we met at the base advised us to buy in Colorado Springs Academy School District 20, which we did ... and we’ve never regretted it.
Academy School District 20 serves over 24,500 students and is classified as a Colorado large school district. During the 2012 Colorado State Assessment Program in the category for large school districts, District 20 ranked #1 in just about every academic achievement. And in the percentage of students classified as proficient or advanced, District 20 again ranked #1.
Today, our sons are 20 and 16. Our oldest graduated from Pine Creek High School and now attends University of Colorado Boulder, and our youngest still attends Pine Creek. Our boys grew up going to District 20 schools, we are confident in all aspects of their educational preparation. We know they’re being instilled with a love for learning and academic skills that will increase their college and career options. They’re also gaining valuable social skills that will enable them to build strong relationships throughout their lives.
So, if you’re one of the fortunate military families transferring to Colorado Springs and your main concerns are good schools for your children and buying a home that will hold its value, email us or give us a call at 719-964-4810.
