A picture window... is worth a thousand words...

A picture window... is worth a thousand words...

I have finally finished my family room transformation.  At least that is what I told my husband.  Ok, ok.  I'm done.

I started the project two years ago when I invited a friend over to my house to help me re-arrange my furniture in my family room.  My friend is also a professional decorator, and stagger for our listings.  Our family room is a large room and I knew that it just didn't feel right.  We have beautiful burgundy colored leather sofas, beautiful custom tables, and large picture windows facing west, toward the mountains, Pikes Peak, and the US Air Force Academy.

My friend was great. She helped me re-arrange the furniture on the spot - while my husband was out of town.  Now my husband is one of those engineering types, you know, everything is centered and symmetrical (boring).  I told her that he would never go for the table being off centered with the large picture window, her suggestion "center the lamp on the window."  She was right - he loved it!  It hasn't moved in 2 years!

The walls were the builder standard white, she suggested a soft cream to "warm up the space."  Well we completed the painting this past January (I have to work on my husband slowly), and I have to admit, the room "ooooozes" warmth.  She also suggested window treatments.  Now we had the wood slat blinds on the large picture windows, and I have to admit that I was perfectly happy with the blinds and was in denial about window treatments, but when the painter had the blinds off the windows and my 12 year old stood at the kitchen table and said "WOW, LOOK AT THAT VIEW!"  Well, I realized then that the blinds had to go.  It only took 5 months and today, I am the proud owner of Graeber roller blinds installed by Don Chisum with Grand Openings.  Don was great.  He came to our house twice with his various sample books, did the measuring, and custom installation.

Tell me what you think.  Was the final result worth the wait?

Now, I have to work on the yard ornaments.  I figure 5 more years and trampoline is history!
